As President of the law offices of Jones Mayer, Mr. Jones serves as City Attorney for the cities of Fullerton and La Habra. He previously served as City Attorney for the cities of Westminster and Whitter. Mr. Jones has over 40 years of experience specializing in municipal law.
Mr. Jones has extensive experience in virtually every issue municipalities confront, including advice on the Brown Act, conflict issues, and procedural issues. His responsibilities include personnel matters, including negotiations with labor organizations, development of general plans, and zoning. Mr. Jones has assisted in the acquisition and expansion of one municipality’s boundaries by over 1,500 acres. Mr. Jones attends staff meetings and works with city managers daily, exclusively on municipal issues.
As Agency Counsel, he has negotiated development and disposition agreements with Walmart, Home Depot, and Costco, as well as development of a seventy-five acre retail complex. Issues such as condemnation, relocation, and housing matters are a regular part of his practice.
Mr. Jones has lectured to the California League of Cities and various other conferences on a variety of topics, including labor negotiations, punitive damages, and seeking gang injunctions. Mr. Jones was a Professor at Whittier College providing instruction in professional ethics and business law for over 10 years.
Mr. Jones was a 17-year elected member to the Lowell Joint Elementary School District Board of Trustees, where he has served as president on four separate occasions. He has also been president of a local Chamber of Commerce, Boys & Girls Club, and Kiwanis Club, as well as the La Habra Citizen of the Year. Mr. Jones has been a Rotarian for over 30 years. He is a past president of the Orange County City Attorney Association and served as a statewide representative to the California League of Cities Legal Advocacy Committee. Mr. Jones is a current board member and past Chairman of the Board of Directors of the California Domestic Water Company, a wholesale water distributor to municipalities in Orange and Los Angeles Counties, since 1994, and served on the Board of Trustees for Marshall B. Ketchum University for 10 years. He currently serves on the Foundation Board of the Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital and will be chairman in 2027.
