Robert Wakefield joined Jones Mayer in 2016 and is a Senior Associate and the Director of Court-Appointed Receiverships who operates out of the Northern California Office. In his capacity as a Court-Appointed Receiver, Mr. Wakefield has successfully overseen the rehabilitation of numerous substandard residential, commercial, and multi-unit buildings, including historical buildings and apartment complexes. He has served as Receiver and Assistant Receiver for cities and counties all over California, including Benicia, Clovis, Fresno, Oakland, Sacramento, Santa Maria, Santa Ana, Santa Rosa, Suisun City, Thousand Oaks, Vacaville, Vallejo, County of Stanislaus and County of Sonoma. He is knowledgeable and experienced in handling complex receivership issues including but not limited to abatement of dangerous and hazardous conditions, hoarding, tenant relocation, property takeovers, security, complex title issues, cost recovery and settlement negotiations.
In addition to his duties as a Receiver, Mr. Wakefield serves as Deputy City Attorney for Bishop, Citrus Heights, Clearlake, Nevada City, and Pismo Beach, as well as Assistant City Attorney for Colusa and Fort Bragg. He also serves as City Prosecutor for Citrus Heights and Special Counsel for Pittsburg and Rocklin. Mr. Wakefield represents our client cities in multiple areas of law including, but not limited to, Health & Safety receiverships, code enforcement, nuisance abatement, Business & Professions 17200 complaints, Pitchess law, Public Records Act, permit revocation, massage ordinances, general litigation, transactional law, contracts, and drafting ordinances. Mr. Wakefield has also served as an Administrative Hearing Officer.
Mr. Wakefield began his legal career in 2006 as a legal assistant for a local family law attorney, before earning his paralegal certificate. While working full-time as a paralegal, Mr. Wakefield attended law school at Lincoln Law School of Sacramento during the evenings. After passing the bar, Mr. Wakefield was promoted to Associate Attorney at a litigation defense firm where his areas of practice included medical malpractice, elder abuse, premise liability and personal injury.
