Scott Drexel is experienced in representing local government agencies with their transactional and litigation needs. Prior to joining Jones Mayer, he represented Marin County as Deputy County Counsel, where he gained broad experience advising local government agencies, including law enforcement and special districts, on the Public Records Act, tax assessments, conflicts of interest, the Brown Act, nuisance abatement and public contracting.
Mr. Drexel is also an experienced criminal and civil litigator. He has successfully defended law enforcement agencies against civil rights suits in both state and federal court and has deep experience in defending police departments against discovery motions for personnel records, as well as conducting internal investigations and advising on the Police Officer’s Bill of Rights. He served as a deputy district attorney for over a decade, specializing in white collar crime and civil enforcement against unlawful business practices under Business a Professions code section 17200. His civil enforcement cases included those for violations of the Fire Code, nuisance abatement, gambling, false advertising, and environmental laws. While working as a prosecutor, Mr. Drexel also served as Chair of the City of Merced Planning Commission, gaining experience in municipal zoning and planning laws.
Mr. Drexel graduated from UCLA with a degree in History. Prior to attending law school, he worked as a research assistant at the Wilson Center, a D.C. based think tank, on agricultural policy. He earned his law degree from Georgetown University, where he interned at the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe and at the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office.
